Julia Crockett Standley Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Julia Crockett Standley Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr, Lesta Burt in 1974 in memory of Julia Standley who lost her life in what is known as “The Huntsville Siege”, a hostage incident that occurred at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Huntsville Unit education and library facility, from July 27 to August 12, 1974. It is the Donor’s intent for the endowment to provide one or more annual scholarship awards to be announced in the spring and disbursed the following academic year, half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
