Coy and Ruth Perkins Scholarship

The Coy and Ruth Perkins Scholarship was established by Nancy Perkins Wilson and Ben F. Wilson in memory and in honor of Coy and Ruth Perkins, parents of Nancy Perkins Wilson, for their contribution and service to education at Sam Houston. Ruth met and married William Coy Perkins while attending Sam Houston State Teachers College. Coy received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1926 and Ruth received her Teaching Certificate in 1926. Coy served on the Sam Houston Alumni Association Board and was awarded the first Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1973. It is the Donor’s intent to provide one or more annual scholarship awards at a minimum of $500 each to be announced in the spring and disbursed the following academic year, half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
