Mrs. Fran Mote Endowed Scholarship in Teaching

Fran’s life was deeply shaped by education and educators. She attended Riverside Elementary in combined-grade classrooms before moving to New Waverly schools, where she and her sister Julia excelled academically and athletically, winning a district softball championship in 1954, with Fran as pitcher. After transferring to Huntsville High School, she graduated in 1956 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in English from East Texas Baptist College and a Master of Arts in English from Sam Houston State University. Fran devoted 35 years to public education as a teacher, department chair, gifted and talented educator, and administrator, serving in Conroe ISD and Huntsville ISD, where she spent 15 years as Curriculum Coordinator of Secondary Education before retiring in 1999. She received numerous honors recognizing her excellence and leadership in education. Following retirement, Fran continued teaching for another decade at Sam Houston State University’s English Language Institute, where she cherished learning from International students and inspiring all learners to pursue lifelong education a goal that defined her career and her life.
