Thomas Powell Fowler IV '67 Legacy Endowed Scholarship

Thomas Powell Fowler IV (1942–2025) was a man of service, discipline, and lifelong curiosity. A 1962 graduate of Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, he attended Texas A&M University before earning his degree in History from Sam Houston State College in May 1967. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, completing training in Great Lakes, Illinois, and serving as a Radarman aboard the minesweeper USS Embattle (MSO 434), home-ported in Yokosuka, Japan, including service in Vietnam — a defining chapter of his life. Following his military service, Tom built a successful career in the energy sector with DOW, Dowell, and Schlumberger, later pursuing a second career as a paralegal in Houston, reflecting his deep interest in political science and the law. A beloved brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who traveled extensively and spent his final years in the Erickson Senior Community, Tom’s legacy now lives on through this scholarship, which will support future Bearkats pursuing studies in history, governance, and the complex world he so passionately sought to understand.
