Bahri Fazliu (Gzimi) Memorial Scholarship
Bahri Fazliu, also known as Gzimi, is a national hero of the Republic of Kosovo. A devoted student, poet, and patriot, Gzimi dedicated his brief but impactful life to the liberation of his country. Throughout his 26 years, he published numerous powerful writings, enlightening the people of Kosovo and inspiring resistance, unity, and a deeper understanding of national dignity and freedom. On May 7, 1998, Gzimi fell while fighting for the freedom of Kosovo. Less than a year later, under the leadership of the United States, NATO intervened militarily to support the people of Kosovo in their noble cause, bringing an end to centuries of oppression and suffering. Today, Gzimi rests peacefully in prosperous, independent, and free Kosovo. His legacy lives on as a symbol of courage, intellect, and unwavering commitment to the homeland. The Bahri Fazliu (Gzimi) Memorial Scholarship was established by Alban Fetahu (SHSU alumnus) and his wife, Vjosa Zejnullahu Fetahu (University of Prishtina alumna), to honor and remember Gzimi and to support students who embody the values he upheld.
