Madhusudan and Abha Choudhary Biomedical Science Graduate Endowed Scholarship

Madhusudan Choudhary was born and brought up in India. His teachers and family always instilled the value of higher education for a successful life. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics from McMaster University, Canada. He continued his post-doctoral work at Duke University-North Carolina and subsequently was awarded the Julian Huxley fellowship at Rice University-Houston. He joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, and later moved to the Department of Biological Sciences at Sam Houston State University, where he was promoted to Associate Professor and then to Full Professor levels. He served as Director of the Center for EURECA (enhancing undergraduate research experience and creative achievement). Throughout his professional career, he significantly contributed in teaching, mentoring, and research in the fields of molecular genetics, microbiology, and genomics & bioinformatics. Dr. Choudhary was recognized with an award of Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Achievement by Sam Houston State University, and an award for student research mentoring by Texas-Branch of American Society of Microbiology. He also served as President of the Texas Branch of American Society of Microbiology. His wife, Abha Choudhary has been involved as a scientist in biomedical research at various institutions, McMaster University, Duke University, Baylor College of Medicine, and Sam Houston State University.
