The Phoenix Commotion Fellowship, sponsored by the Dan & Marsha Phillips Endowment

The Phoenix Commotion Fellowship will provide an opportunity for Sam Houston State University students, with a passion for creative problem solving, the arts, sustainability and community engagement to make a significant contribution to the local Huntsville, TX community by way of a creative or art-based community-implemented initiative or project.

The Phoenix Commotion Fellow will be supported to develop and implement an art-based initiative or project for the benefit of the Huntsville community. Those selected for this honor will be required to present the results of their community project in several venues, (e.g. classrooms, conferences, galleries, etc). In addition, the Phoenix Commotion Fellow will be strongly encouraged to submit a write-up of their project for publication. With each presentation/publication will come an acknowledgement of the Donors, as well as the honorees of this endowment, Dan and Marsha Phillips, and their visionary community leadership through The Phoenix Commotion as well as their many years fostering art in the Huntsville community. Their story and the Phoenix Commotion Fellowship will leave a legacy that will inspire others to engage through art and solve problems creatively in “your own backyard.”

Applications are due by February 1st. Awards will be disbursed the following academic year, (half in the fall semester and half in the spring semester) upon satisfactory progress or completion of the selected project. The selected Fellow agrees to report progress to the Fellows Committee midway through the project/initiative and a final report at the end of the year.
