Dr. Marcy Miller Beverly Animal Science Endowed Scholarship

Marcy was born December 1, 1968, in Columbus, Ohio. She is the youngest of three children to Dr. Marsh and Mable Miller. Her family left Columbus and moved to Huntsville, TX in 1970 when her father started his dental practice. Marcy graduated from Huntsville High School in 1987. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University in 1991, Marcy followed it with a Master of Science in Agricultural Business from Sam Houston State University in 1993. Her interest in educating young people was sparked during her time at SHSU while working on her Master of Science degree. Therefore, to pursue her goal to become a professor, Marcy returned to Texas A&M University and completed her Ph.D. in Animal Science in 2001. Marcy was employed at Sam Houston State University in 2001 to join the growing animal science program. Throughout her tenure at SHSU she has utilized a hands-on active learning environment in her classrooms and courses taught. Marcy finds purpose in the classroom and her efforts have been rewarded multiple times. She is the recipient of many national teaching awards and the SHSU Excellence in Teaching Award. She has received the USDA Regional Teacher Award, NARRU Distinguished Educator Award, NACTA Teacher Fellow along with the COSET Excellence in Teaching Award. After 23 years of service, family, friends, and alumni wanted to recognize Dr. Marcy M. Beverly’s contribution to the Animal Science program and the Agricultural Sciences department. Donors recognize her passion for teaching and acknowledge the personal time dedicated to the Animal Science program and department. Through the establishment of this endowment, Marcy’s legacy and commitment will continue for future generations.
