Leonard Barras Baseball Scholarship
The Leonard Paul Barras Baseball Endowment was established by Tommy Barras of Houston, Texas in memory of his broth. Leonard Paul Barras was born on May 23, 1963, to Norman and Audrey. Leonard graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1985, with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He loved sports, especially baseball. An early high point of his life came when he walked onto the Sam Houston State baseball team and earned a spot on the roster. The grit, determination, and hustle that made Leonard a great baseball player benefited Universal Computer Systems and the CallBright Corporation for 17 years. Leonard was resolute that whatever team he was part of would always win first place. He hated losing, but he never claimed all the glory when the team he led won. He considered his work colleagues a second family. He generously shared with them what he knew, encouraged them to follow his example of giving 110 percent, and cheered for them when they achieved their goals. His proudest professional moments came when people he coached and mentored were successful. Leonard died prematurely on September 13, 2013, at the age of 50. But he still lives in the hearts and memories of many. The Leonard Paul Barras Scholarship has been given by those who remember him as a consummate professional, a fierce competitor, a loyal friend, and a loving son, brother, and father.
