Madge Pierce Triplett Memorial Scholarship in Business
The Madge Pierce Triplett Memorial Scholarship in Business was established but Sarah Hammond of Fort Worth, Texas. Madge Pierce Triplett was able to attend Sam Houston State Teachers College from the Fall of 1924 through the Spring of 1927 because of the generosity of her brother Earle Pierce. After deciding that teaching would not be her career, she began working as a secretary using the skills, she had wisely acquired in the College of Business Administration. Her daughter Sarah (Sally) Triplett Hammond attended Sam Houston State Teachers College from January 1962 through May 1964 with her first year’s tuition provided by the State of Texas. Her plan was to become an English teacher, but she took classes in the College of Business Administration on the advice of her mother. In the 1980s she returned to Sam Houston State University to pursue a master’s degree in accounting at the College of Business Administration. She then used that degree to become a CPA and work for 24 years in the oil and gas industry.
