Chance Davis Memorial Accounting Scholarship
The Chance David Memorial Accounting Scholarship was established by Axley & Rode, LLP and Matt Broyles of Lufkin Texas in memory of Chance Payton Davis an employee of Axley & Rode, LLP. Axley & Rode, LLP was organized in 1949 with two partners, Branch L. Axley and Carl F. Rode. What started as one office located in downtown Lufkin, Texas has become a firm with fourteen partners, and offices located in Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Livingston, and Jasper, Texas. The firm has expanded to over eighty-five personnel (including partners) of which approximately 75% are professionals with twenty-four being CPA’s. Chance Payton Davis was born December 10, 1979, in Houston, TX. He grew up in the Friendswood and League City, Texas region but eventually moved to Livingston, TX, to attend Sam Houston State University. Chance attended Lone Star College and Alvin Community College until September 2014, when he transferred to Sam Houston State University. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting on August 5, 2016, and a Master of Business Administration in Accounting on May 12, 2018. Chance achieved both degrees at Sam Houston with great honor as a Magna Cum Laude graduate. Aspiring to establish a thriving career in the field of accounting, Chance continued his education and earned his license as a Certified Public Accountant, confirming his proficiency in taxation, auditing, regulatory compliance, and financial analysis. Chance began his dream career as a CPA at Axley & Rode, LLP in September 2016 at the firm’s Livingston location, where he served until his premature death on December 19, 2021. The partners at Axley & Rode LLP are establishing this scholarship to pay tribute to Chance’s dedication to the field of accounting and to provide funding for scholarships for future aspiring accountants like Chance.
