David B. Houston Criminal Justice Scholarship

The David B. Houston Criminal Justice Scholarship was set up by Carol M. Houston of Huntsville, TX in memory of David B. Houston. David B. Houston, Person who does things, graduated in 1977 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He considered law enforcement an honorable profession and endeavored to teach others who shared his passion. Carol, David’s wife, graduated the same year, with her focus in education. They began dating in 1975 and were married for 45 years until David’s death in July 2022 due to cancer. David’s favorite assignments during his 35-year police career were in patrol, as he loved interacting with the public; and at the HPD academy teaching cadets. David retired as Sergeant in December 2012 and began teaching as an adjunct at SHSU. He told a dad joke at the beginning of each class. Though the students often rolled their eyes, it quickly became a favorite part of the class. (Two peanuts went walking down the street, and one was assaulted.) David had a love of rock and roll, the Beatles, and his Lord.
