Ruby Trawick Vickers Endowed Scholarship

The Ruby Trawick Vickers Scholarship Endowment was established by the Estate of Patricia Ann Vickers Phillips in memory of her mother Ruby Trawick Vickers. Ruby Trawick was born on March 3, 1914, in Trinity County, Texas, the daughter of Nora Mae (Ray) Trawick and Washington Harvey Trawick. Ruby married Henry James Vickers on January 24, 1900, in Lufkin, Texas. Together Ruby and Henry had one daughter, Patricia Ann Vickers. While living in Madisonville, Ruby was the owner and operator of the Madisonville Flower Shop. She moved to Houston in 1989 to be near her daughter, Patricia and spent the remaining years of her life there. Patricia grew up in Madisonville, Texas where her mother owned and operated the Madisonville Flower Shop. She graduated as valedictorian of the Madisonville High School senior class in 1954. She continued her education at Sam Houston State University and graduated with the highest possible honors of Summa Cum Laude in 1958. Immediately after graduation, Patricia began working as executive secretary for Kenneth C. Schoppe, Sr., Vice President of Exploration at Humble Oil, now ExxonMobil. Patricia spent her entire professional career with ExxonMobil.
