Proud to be First-Generation Scholarship

The First-Generation Center at Sam Houston State University was established on June 6, 2022. The FGC supports SHSU Strategic Priority 1 (Prioritize Student Success and Student Access) and is dedicated to helping first-generation and their families navigate their university experience. The FGC operates on 3 priorities that are nested under the SHSU’s priorities: #1 connect and engage the FG population to university resources and services, #2 enhance an inclusive environment that promotes a sense of belonging and empowers first-generation to success (Proud to be First-Generation), and #3 identify, develop, and strengthen relationships with FG alumni, community groups/organizations and other entities with a large FG focus to support FG students. The vision of the FGC is for FG students to gain a sense of community, have a transformative experience, and complete a bachelor’s degree AND for SHSU to become the leader in FG student success.
