John C. and Nancy Whittman Otto '70 Endowed Scholarship

John graduated from Dayton High School in 1966 and attended Texas A&M University receiving his BBA in Accounting in 1970. He married Nancey Whitman in December 1969. He worked for Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in Houston, prior to starting his own CPA firm in Dayton, which he operated for 35 years. He was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2004 and served for six terms. During the 84th session in 2015, he chaired the House Appropriations Committee. His district included Liberty, San Jacinto and Walker counties. Nancy graduated from Dayton High School in 1966. She attended Sam Houston State University and received her BBA in 1970. After graduation she was employed with Shell Chemical Company in the engineering department, and later moved to Shell Oil, working with the market research department. when Nancy and John returned to Dayton in 1975, Nancy spent her time involved in the lives of their two sons, Bryan and Jason. She was involved in cub scouting and church activities and sports with the boys. When the boys went off to Sam Houston to obtain their degrees, she pursued a career as office manager in a dental practice in Dayton, where she continues to work today. While John served in the Texas House, Nancy was active in the Legislative Ladies Club, serving as Vice-President during 2009-2010 and President during 2011-2012. She also serves on the Board of Directors for CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties.
