Ed and Genevieve Sandhop Scholarship in Business Advancement
The Ed and Genevieve Sandhop Scholarship in Business Advancement was established by Frankie Zou Kerr, Stephanie Kerr Smither and John Smither, and Zou Kerr Cherry and Boyd Cherry in honor of Ed and Genevieve Sandhop. Mr. Sandhop was the mentor who provided Mrs. Kerr with encouragement, assistance, and financial advice at a critical time in the life of the Kerr family business in Huntsville. This scholarship was established by the donors to recognize Ed and Genevieve for their many unheralded friendships to scores of people in Huntsville and to the community itself. Ed Sandhop received his bachelor of business administration degree from Sam Houston in 1948 after serving as a member of the distinguished Flying Tigers, the 1st American Volunteer Group to serve in World War II. Genevieve Sandhop received her bachelor of arts in English in 1956 and her master of arts in English in 1960, both from Sam Houston. After graduation she was a professor of English at the university until her retirement. It is the Donor’s intent to provide one or more annual scholarship awards to be announced in the spring and disbursed the following academic year, half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
