Pamela Harlan Riggs Education Scholarship Endowment

The Pamela Harlan Riggs Education Endowed Scholarship is established in her memory by her husband, Larry T. Riggs of Kingwood, Texas. Pamela was born in 1945 to William A. Harlan and Clara Markham Harlan in Houston, Texas. She had one brother, Charles “Newt” Harlan and a sister Linda Dahill. Pam grew up in Humble, Texas. She graduated from Humble High School in 1964 where she was head cheerleader and football homecoming queen. Pam entered SHSU in the summer of 1964, graduating summer 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in home economics with a minor in English. While attending SHSU she joined the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, was voted Miss Greek, Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity sweetheart, and was a member of first president of Sig Ep ’s Golden Hearts. She earned her Master of Education and Administrative Certificate from Stephen F. Austin University in 1979. Pamela was a teacher and education administrator for 34 years. Most of her career was with Humble ISD, but she also worked in the Texas school districts of Madisonville, Huntsville, Spring Branch, as well as Greenville, Mississippi and Des Moines, Iowa. She loved cooking, golf, travel and her many canine pets, especially MacGyver and Jack Flynn. Larry and Pamela met while attending SHSU and they were married in 1966. They had a wonderful, happy marriage for 55 years.
