Dr. Sam Sullivan Education Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Sam Sullivan Education Endowed Scholarship was established by the Ed and Jean Mathews Foundation and its representative, Dr. Robert M. Maninger, in honor of Dr. Sam Sullivan. The Ed and Jean Mathews Foundation is a tangible realization of Ed and Jean Mathews love for all students, and the result of more than 60 years of their hard work to create the endowment to benefit recipients. It was their desire, through the foundation, to help take students to the next level and to reach further than they thought possible. Ed Mathews was a hero who served in the 82nd Airborne in the European Theatre and would later be selected to serve in Eisenhower’s Color Guard in Berlin. Jean Mathews, who survived Ed for several years, was an astute businesswoman and constant companion to Ed. This scholarship’s honoree, Dr. Sullivan, was a classroom teacher and administrator in Edmond, Oklahoma for six years before his employment at Sam Houston State University. He spent 48 years an as educator in the College of Education and received Professor Emeritus status.
