Marie Bruner Vick '35 Mathematics Endowed Scholarship

The Marie Bruner Vick ‘35 Mathematics Scholarship Endowment was established by Ann Marie Vick of Bryan, Texas in memory of her mother, Marie Bruner Vick. Two words encompass who Mrs. Vick was: “She taught.” Marie was an educator whose passions were teaching, genealogy, mathematics, and jokes. She loved life, fun, and her students-and they loved her back. Upon helping her clean-out her teaching desk of some 40 years for Marie’s retirement, her daughter can recall finding letters of thanks from former students and parents, graduation and wedding invitations, birth announcements, pictures, and even a poem titled “A Farewell to Mrs. Vick”, all attesting to the impact she had on the lives of those she taught. As recently as six weeks before her passing, Marie begged her nurse to bring her daughter to visit with her, as she was sure she could help her with Algebra II. Nothing sums up Marie’s life and greatest passion better than an excerpt from “A Farewell to Mrs. Vick”:
“…it is not only your teaching ability that enables him to learn but is also the love that is transmitted through your gleaming eyes and smiling face. From stories of previous students to the ""imp"" that motivates you to devise difficult exams, learning from you has made my life, as well as that of others, a happier place to be. Given these qualities and the many others you possess, it is easily seen what an asset you have been to the teaching profession and understand why… you will be missed."
