Gibson “Gib” Lewis Endowed Scholarship for Osteopathic Medicine
The Gibson “Gib” D. Lewis Endowed Scholarship for Osteopathic Medicine was established by Gibson D. Lewis. Gib Lewis is a former member of the Texas House of Representatives and was the first individual in Texas history to serve for five terms as the Speaker of the House. As a member of the Select Committee on Public Education, he was a key figure in enacting one of the most sweeping reforms in the history of Texas public education. Mr. Lewis served 4 years in the Air Force, attended Sam Houston State Teachers College (now Sam Houston State University). He is a member of the Executive Leadership Council for The Share the Vision capital campaign, serving as the Fort Worth chair. Mr. Lewis is currently a member of the College of Osteopathic Medicine committee for the Honoring Traditions Creating Futures Capital Campaign. His knowledge and guidance through the process of establishing the college was instrumental in securing final approval for the Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
