Roland E. Black Nursing Scholarship

The Roland E. Black Nursing Scholarship was established by Roland E. Black of Dallas, Texas. Dr. Black’s family has been connected with SHSU since 1921, over a century of involvement. He is the fifth Sam Houston State graduate in his family. Three family members continued their education, becoming medical doctors, including Dr. Black, as well as his father, F. Ray Black, M.D., and his brother, Robert Black, M.D. Dr. Black’s desire is that this scholarship be used to entice high caliber individuals to enter the Sam Houston State University School of Nursing. In that regard, this will be an academic award based on merit and not a need-based scholarship.
