Robert L. and Ruverna F. Dunning Endowed Scholarship
Ruverna Dunning graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1974 and embarked on a teaching career spanning twenty two years. Her compassion was education for everyone and her joy was in seeing her students succeed. She was recognized as an outstanding teacher on several occasions. She endured several months of declining health and did so with grace, dignity, courage and determination. Throughout that time she received love and comfort from her many nurses and student nurses enrolled in the Sam Houston State University Nursing Program. The endowed scholarship is an appropriate way to honor her loving and caring spirit by assisting students pursuing a teacher certificate or enrolled in the nursing program. Robert Dunning graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1965 and after working as a student assistant became a full-time employee in the Regis tar’s Office. He retired in 2003 as University Registrar after forty years of service to the university. After leaving Sam Houston he served as a regional director/consultant for the National Student Clearinghouse for six years, retiring a second time in 2009.
