Sam J. Cangelose Memorial Golf Endowed Scholarship and Johnny Lampo-Luke Ruffino Golf Endowed Scholarship

The Sam J. Cangelose Memorial Golf Endowed Scholarship and Johnny Lampo-Luke Ruffino Golf Endowed Scholarship funds were established by Johnny S. Lampo. In 1968 a partnership of Johnny Lampo, Sam Cangelose and Pat Ponzio was formed to purchase the Bryan Pizza Hut. Later, Luke Ruffino joined the partnership and the Conroe Pizza Hut was built. In 1970, the Pizza Hut of Huntsville was built.When managing partner Sam Cangelose passed away in 1980, Kevin Smith, manager of the Huntsville operation, suggested establishing a golf tournament for the benefit of SHSU scholarship fund. The Sam J. Cangelose Memorial Golf Endowed Scholarship. The second scholarship was added after the 30 years of success from the tournament. It is the Donor’s intent for the endowment to provide two or more annual scholarship awards at a minimum of $1,000 each to be announced in the spring and disbursed the following academic year, half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester. Scholarship awards shall not exceed the earnings of the endowment. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
