Captain Rowdy J. Inman Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This Agreement was established in memory of Capt. Rowdy J. Inman by the Sam Houston State University Military Science Alumni Club, H. Ross Asher, Jr., Scholarship Chair of the Military Science Alumni Club of Houston, Texas, and BG Richard W. Mills, Military Science Alumni Club President of Damon, Texas. Captain Rowdy J. Inman, a 38 year old Officer with the US 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment was killed in action on 26 December in Iraq. Captain Inman is the first Sam Houston State University ROTC graduate to die in combat. Rowdy graduated in 2000 from Sam Houston State University with a BS in Military Science. He was commissioned in the US Army in May of 2000. Rowdy and Shannon married in February 1999. Their family consists of two daughters; Keeley and Casey; and one son Gary. As a career military officer Rowdy participated in multiple deployments: Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF I, OIF III, OIF V), and Operation Just Cause. Rowdy’s awards included: The Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC), the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal with OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with OLC, the Army Achievement Medal with 2 OLC, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, The Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait), the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Valorous Unit Award with OLC. The Military Science Alumni Club was formed by the SHSU Alumni Association in 2013. The primary mission of the Club is to provide scholarship, financial, and leadership support to the Military Science Department of the University, working closely with the Professor of Military Science, the Military Science Cadre, and the student members of the Bearkat Battalion.
