John Gayle Winkelmann Endowed Scholarship

In 1966, John Winkelmann graduated from Lamar High School. He attended SHSU, graduating in December 21, 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. While attending SHSU he was a member of the rodeo club. John’s nickname was Sundown. After graduation, he moved to West Columbia in 1980 where he was a rancher. John was a member of the Sam Houston State University Rodeo Club Alumni Association, Brazoria County Cattlemen’s Association, Brazoria County Fat Stock and Fair Association, Brazoria County One Hundred Club, Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America, West Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and the Faith Baptist Church. John passed away on November 26, 2006.
