Emma Normand Biological Sciences Endowed Scholarship
Emma Normand was born in 1894. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor College. She received her B.A. degree in Zoology in 1917 from the University of Texas with a strong emphasis in the sciences. She began her teaching career at Trinity High School where she taught social studies. She met Mary Estill who convinced her to begin teaching at the Sam Houston State Teachers College. In 1928 she took a leave of absence to work on her M.A. degree in Zoology, which she received in 1932. She taught at Sam Houston State Teachers College as an Assistant Professor of biology and Supervising Teacher of Science in 1935 and was later promoted to Associate Professor of Biology in 1951. Emma taught at SHSTC from 1931 to 1965 when she retired. This endowment was established in memory of Professor Emma Normand.
