Dale Benke Mechanical Engineering Technology Endowed Scholarship
Dale Benke was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended Lamar High School and in 1960 he joined the US Air Force. Upon returning from the service, he enrolled South Texas Jr. College. After several semesters he began working and held several different jobs. Mr. Benke began his college career in 1974 with the help of the GI Bill. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching in 1977, and received his Master of Education, Industrial Education, in 1979, both from Sam Houston State. Mr. Benke also met his wife, Sandra in Huntsville and they married in 1974. While attending SHSU, Mr. Benke noticed that there were other students, like him, that could use some help with the cost of attending college. While still a student, Mr. Benke set up this scholarship to support the students in Mechanical Engineering Technology Department. Mr. Benke retired from the North Harris Montgomery College District, now Lone Star College District, in 2005, after spending 25 years as a professor and is now an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Engineering Technology at SHSU. He and his family continue to support SHSU and has been able to help many students achieve their goal of receiving a college education.
