Red and Sandra McKaskle Men's Basketball Endowed Scholarship

D.V. “Red” McKaskle is a graduate of Reagan High School in the Houston Heights, and Sam Houston State University Class of 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in sociology. While attending SHSU he was a member of the Bearkat Basketball team. Mr. McKaskle has served on teh SHSU Alumni Board of Directors and is a member of the Bearkat Partners. Me. McKaskle retired from teh Texas Department of Corrections in 1985, after a 23 year career, during which he worked his way up through the ranks, serving as INterim Director during the last year of his tenure. His expertise in the corrections field uniquely qualified him for a 1991 appointment as Major with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, where he assumed command of inmate housing in the Detention Bureau. In 1995, Sheriff Thomas appointed D.V. “Red” McKaskle to take over as the Chief Deputy for the largest Sheriff’s Department in the State of Texas. In 2005, he retired after almost four decades of distinguished service to the State of Texas.
This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
