Investigator Robert L. Koryciak Scholarship for Excellence in Criminal Justice Studies

This scholarship was established by Robert L. Koryciak. Robert began his public safety career as a 16-year-old volunteer firefighter in North Georgia in 1975. In 1978, he began his first law enforcement endeavor as a “Sworn” municipal police office for the City of Austell, Georgia, resigning in January 1979 for paramedic school. In June 1979, he graduated as an Advanced EMT (paramedic) while serving Douglas County (GA) Fire Department. On December 17, 1979, he was hired by the Houston Fire Department, serving as a firefighter/paramedic, and engineer/operator-paramedic. On December 17, 1999, 20 years to the day after joining the Houston Fire Department, he was promoted to Arson Investigator for the Houston Arson Bureau. Here, he was able to combine firefighting, law enforcement, and investigations in on truly “Awesome” job!
