Dan Richard Beto Endowed Scholarship in Correctional Leadership Scholarship
Dan Richard and Donna Beto established the Dan Richard Beto Endowed Scholarship in Correctional Leadership to provide financial assistance to selected students who pursue the field of institutional or community corrections. Dan Richard Beto, who earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a Master of Arts degree in criminology and corrections from Sam Houston State University, recorded more than four decades of service to the criminal justice system. While he started out in institutional corrections, most of his career was devoted to community corrections. He worked as a juvenile probation officer, US. Probation Officer, and as director of two community supervision and corrections departments in Texas. He was the founding Executive Director of the Correctional Management Institute of Texas at Sam Houston State University and served in that capacity from 1994 to 2005.
