Nell Rowena Tucker Endowed Scholarship

Nell Tucker graduated from then Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1932 with a B.S. in History and Geography. During World War II, she attended Naval Reserve Midshipman’s School in Northampton, MA. She received her commission as an ensign in 1943. Ms. Tucker’s career as an educator began in 1948 with her assignment to teach language arts in the 7th grade. She retired from teaching in 1971. Ms. Tucker often spoke of the hardship she endured to reach her goal. Her whole life was spent teaching children, giving to her country and to her neighbors. This scholarship was established by SHSU’s College of Education in memory of Nell R. Tucker.
