Rickey and Julie Martin Education Scholarship in Honor of Kyley A. Hampton
Rickey and Julie Martin became acquainted with Sam Houston State University in 2008 when their granddaughter Kyley Hampton enrolled as an elementary education major. Kyley discovered her calling to be a teacher at a very early age and set her goal of attending and graduating from SHSU at the age of six. in 2004 Kyley and her family moved to Montana; when it came time for Kyley to attend college at SHSU her residence in Montana made her an out-of-state student and she incurred nonresident tuition. Due to .financial reasons, Kyley faced the fact that she might have to put her dreams of attending SHSU and becoming a teacher on hold Rickey and Julie Martin, knowing their granddaughter’s desire and aspiration to become a teacher, decided to assist Kyley with her tuition. Mr. and Mrs. Martin felt privileged and blessed to be able to help Kyley pursue her dream. Kyley proved her appreciation to her grandparents by maintaining a 4. 0 GPA. in 2011, Kyley received several scholarships for her academic merit; the Martin’s saw firsthand how much scholarships could help students in reaching their goals. Rickey and Julie Martin realize the importance of scholarships and look forward to the opportunity to assist other students at Sam Houston State University in achieving their goal of a college education.
