Dr. Mary Lynn Deshazo Alpha Lambda Delta Scholarship
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national society that honors academic excellence by students in their first year in college. The Sam Houston Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta was founded on November 13, 1970. The purpose of this organization is to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year in institutions of higher-education, to promote intelligent living and continued high standard of learning, and to assist women and men in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society. Dr. Mary Lynn Deshazo is a founding member of the Alpha lambda Delta Society at Sam Houston State University. The chapter was established at SHSU to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year in institutions of higher education. She earned her B.S in chemistry from East Texas Baptist College, M.Ed. in education from University of Houston, and Ph.D. in biochemistry from Texas A&M University. Dr. Deshazo has been teaching chemistry at SHSU since 1957 and was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus in 2007. She has served with many organizations regionally and nationally. Dr. Deshazo passed away at the age of 89 in 2019.
