Lynn Ray Smith Memorial History Endowed Scholarship
Lynn Ray attended Pennington High School and graduated in 1956. He attended Lamar Tech College on a basketball scholarship then decided to follow in his father and sister’s footsteps and attended Sam Houston State Teachers College. He graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education with a minor in History in 1960. Afterwards attended Stephen F. Austin College and graduated with a Master of Education in 1963. He taught and coached in Centerville until he received a scholarship to attend summer school in Arizona. While in Arizona, he married Marie Long in 1966. Upon returning to Texas, they both taught at Centerville for several years until organizing and operating National Treasures Hunters League as well as the Jack Long Insurance Agency until his passing. This scholarship was established in memory of Lynn Ray Smith, the donor’s brother.
