Janet E. Piper Endowed Scholarship

The Janet E. Piper Endowed Scholarship was established by Charles W. DeShazo and Mary Lynn DeShazo as requested by the estate of Dr. Janet Piper to provide financial assistance to deserving graduate students. Dr. Janet E. Piper was a professor of English at Sam Houston State University for thirty years, from 1942 until her retirement in 1972, and passed away at the age of 95 on August 31, 1997. Dr. Piper was known as an accomplished and thought-provoking poet who was published in many magazines, including Poetry, Saturday Review, and The New York Herald ­Tribune Book Supplement. Her colleagues at Sam Houston remember her as a bright and articulate woman of convictions who "had the stamina to support her convictions. "
