Behrens Family Scholarship in Honor of Dr. William V. Hyman
Dr. William “Bill” V. Hyman is Professor Emeritus of Population Health in the College of Health Sciences at Sam Houston State University. He began his career as a Lecturer in 1987, climbing the ranks to Instructor, Assistant, Associate, and full Professor. At SHSU. Dr. Hyman served many years as Health Program Coordinator in the Population Health Program (Health and Kinesiology Department), Graduate Coordinator for the AIJA in Health degree, Director of the Bachelor of General Studies degree and SAM Center Academic Advisor. Dr. Hyman currently teaches half-time as a retiree in the College of Health Sciences. His areas of interest are child and adolescent health and wellness management. In his distinguished career, Dr. Hyman mentored multitudes of students and is well-loved as an inspiring professor, mentor, and friend to countless students. The Behrens Family Scholarship in Honor of Dr. William V. Hyman was established by two of Dr. Hyman’s former students, Dr. Time and Charity Behrens. Dr. Timothy K Behrens is a SHSU Alum (BS 2000, Health). He and Charity Behrens al/ended SHSU between 1992 – 2000, both first- generation and non-traditional students. He and Mrs. Behrens reside in Whitefish Bay Wisconsin and have two sons. Dr. and Mrs. Behrens credit SHSU professor, Dr. William "Bill’’ V. Hyman. with allowing them to see a world beyond their circumstances as first-generation college students with little means to support themselves while in college. Dr. Hyman remains a close mentor and friend to Dr. and Mrs. Behrens.
It is the donor’s intent that the recipient articulate in essay form how this scholarship will help them achieve their goals.
