Ellen Happe Phillips Music Endowed Scholarship

Ellen Happe Phillips attended Sam Houston State University from 1977-1982. She received a Bachelor’s of Music Education in August of 1982. Originally from New York, her family was transferred to Houston in the early 70’s. She attended Memorial Middle School and Memorial High School where she began her music education and love for the band. She was an accomplished B flat and E flat Clarinet player, sitting at the top of the Clarinet section during her college career. After college, Ellen taught private clarinet lessons in and around the Houston area for 10 years before starting her career as a professional fundraiser at the Houston Symphony. Since then, she has raised money for the arts, healthcare and higher education.

This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
