James Dennis Bazan Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The James Dennis Bazan Memorial Endowed Scholarship is established by Carol A. Livingston of Sour Lake, Texas in memory of her brother, James Dennis Bazan. James Dennis Bazan was born in 1946 and grew up in the small southeast Texas town of Sour Lake. He graduated from Hardin-Jefferson High School and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in History. While at SHSU, James was a member of the Lowman Rifle Drill Team and the Scabbard and Blade Honor Society. During his junior year, in 1967, he marched with the Lowman Rifle Drill Team at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. The first-place trophy in the shape of the Washington Monument is located in one of the trophy cases in the Military Science Department. He was also an ROTC scholarship student, a Distinguished Military Student and a Distinguished Military Graduate. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant, U. S. Army – Infantry. CPT Bazan served in Vietnam from 1970-71. After completing his military service, he conducted a successful career in sales.
