Penelope Hasekoester & Daniel Sellers Scholarship Endowment in Musical Theatre
This endowment is being established in memory of Daniel Sellers, the Donor’s significant other, to provide financial assistance to selected students who have met the criteria outlined. Dan Sellers was an enthusiastic patron of the arts and felt strongly about helping young artist pursue their dreams. Dan Sellers loved life. He enjoyed being around people; he enjoyed being alone. He read all the time. He painted; he wrote: he cooked and gardened and enjoyed hunting and fishing and judo. Although illness took its toll on Dan in the final years of his life he still maintained an interest in the arts, and critical discourse and was intensely curious and perceptive. Dan was very connected to the Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre-his significant other of 44 years was a faculty member in the department. Penelope Hasekoester (Penny) came lo Sam Houston State University in 1993 as a pool faculty member in 1he Department of Theater and Dance. Over the years she became a full professor and lenuredfac11/ty member of the department. Ms. Hasekoester became Chair of the Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre. Penny served as Chair for thirteen years until 2017. when she became an Associate Dean in tire College of Fine Arts and Mass Communication. Penny Hasekoester created this scholarship in Dan Sellers’ memory as he was an enthusiastic patron of the arts all felt strongly about helping young artists pursue their dreams.
