Mary S. Estill Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Mary Sexton Estill was a professor, teacher and author born on April 28, 1901 in Huntsville, Texas. She taught school in Marshall, Trinity, Huntsville and other Texas towns. In 1970, she wrote a history of Sam Houston State University entitled, Vision Realized. She was active in many historic and education organizations. For her community service, the town named a street in her honor. Robert Estill ’s family has deep Texas roofs and has proudly supported higher education for Texas citizens al Sam Houston State University. In establishing the Mary S. Estill Scholarship Robert Estill wishes lo carry the memory of his heritage forward and honor !he University that played a formative role in his life. After graduating from Rice University, Robert Estill worked for American General Insurance Company for several years and then decided to attend Sam Houston State University. He earned an MBA at Sam Houston State in 1966. After graduation, he began a long career as a Revenue Agent with the IRS. He spent a large part of his career working as an auditor in the LB&I Division. He is grateful for the years he spent at Sam Houston State. In his estimation, they were among the most memorable and important years of his life.
