Newton Strandberg Endowed Scholarship

The Newton Strandberg Endowed Scholarship was established by the Department of Music at Sam Houston State University to commemorate and honor the career of Professor Newton Strandberg and to provide financial assists to deserving students. Dr. Strandberg served on the music faculty for twenty-six years, retiring in 1997. During his distinguished tenure he played an important role in the theory/composition faculty, contributing numerous new works for faculty and ensembles. It is the Donor’s intent for the endowment to provide one annual scholarship award to be announced in the spring and disbursed the following academic year, half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester. Scholarship awards shall not exceed the earnings of the endowment. This scholarship was established to assist with education expenses.
