Professor Jerry L. Dowling Scholarship

Professor Dowling earned a bachelor’s degree and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee. He joined the faculty at SHSU in 1972 following service as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During his over 40 years on the faculty of the College of Criminal Justice he taught a variety of law and law enforcement-related courses but focused his instructional and research efforts on substantive criminal law. He is the author of both textbooks and scholarly articles on criminal law and pre-trial criminal procedure. In service to the broader justice community, Professor Dowling conducted numerous law-related training sessions for area peace officers and police administrators. Upon his retirement from SHSU in 2014 lie was awarded the title Professor Emeritus.
