Mary Ann and Louis Macey Endowed Scholarship

Mary Ann Hansen, the daughter of Ruby and Homer Hansen, was raised in Cleveland, Texas. Ruby and Homer always gave priority to education in the lives of their children with the strong belief that an education was of utmost importance in life and success. They strongly encouraged Mary Ann and her brother to further their studies. After graduation from Cleveland High School in 1960, Mary Ann entered Sam Houston State Teachers College to pursue a degree in education. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with an elementary education certificate from Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1964. Mary Ann enjoyed a successful career in teaching in the Houston school system. While living in Houston, Mary Ann met Louis Macey. Louis, originally from Houston, graduated from Rice University with a degree in economics and was an accomplished athlete, participating in sports both in high school and college. The importance of education was also emphasized in the Macey family. Louis’s brother and sister also had successful teaching careers in the Houston school system. Louis and Mary Ann still live in Houston where they have been actively involved in their real estate development business since the early 1960 ‘s. Through the years, both Louis and Mary Ann have generously given their time and talent in support of many community, charitable, and civic organizations in the Houston and Harris County area. Because of Louis’s participation and love for sports, he and Mary Ann have an appreciation for the high standard of work ethics, principles, and dedication that it requires to be successful in athletics. Mary Ann’s background in education and career as a teacher is indicative of the Macey family’s dedication to education. Their continued success in the business world has provided them with the ability to give back to the education of talented young athletes through this foundation.
