Frank and Mary McAdams Payne Banking Endowed Scholarship
Mary McAdams Payne received her Bachelor of Arts in education from then Sam Houston Normal Institution in 1913 and taught school in Shiro, Texas. Benjamin F. Payne received his Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1912 and taught near Bryan and Beeville. The Payne’s purchased controlling interest in the First State Bank of Carthage in 1925 which continues to be family owned. This endowment was established by Mary Payne Murphy and Foster Murphy in memory of Benjamin Franklin (Frank) and Mary McAdams Payne, parents of Mary Payne Murphy.
