Rolando, Josefa, and Jocelyn del Carmen Criminal Justice Doctoral Scholarship
The Rolando, Josefa, and Jocelyn del Carmen Criminal Justice Doctoral Scholarship was established by Rolando V. and Josefa F. del Carmen to provide financial assistance to doctoral students in the College of Criminal Justice. Rolando and Josefa del Carmen came to Sam Houston State University in 1974. Rolando has taught since then in the College of Criminal Justice; Josefa worked for 18 years as a secretary in various offices in the University. Both graduated with honors and were recipients of various scholarships while going through college. Rolando later obtained scholarships while pursuing graduate studies in law in the United States. Without help from others they could not have come to the United States. The help they received while going to college in the Philippines was of immense value to them and their families. The scholarships and endowment they have established at Sam Houston State University manifests their deep appreciation for the kindness others extended to them in years past. The de! Carmen family hopes that whoever receives this scholarship benefits as much from it as they did when they were students. Over and beyond that, however, they hope the recipient, when he or she is able, strongly considers helping others in similar fashion. They hope the benefits of a scholarship can be passed on by the recipient to others who also deserve the kind of quality education they received here at Sam Houston.
