Fitz Family Endowment
This endowment was established in honor of Bessie Fitz Fritter, William Heston (Bill) Fitz, Clovis Jackson (Jack) Fitz, John Hershel Fitz, and Ella Janell Fitz Maurer, and in memory of brother Joe Allen Fitz, all of whom are former Sam Houston State University students. Bessie attended SHSU during summer sessions in the late 20’s/early’30s; William Heston, 1939-42; Clovis Jackson, 1941-42; John Hershel, 1946-50; Ella Janell, 1948-49; and Joe Allen, 1949-51. William Heston Fitz ‘42, BS in Physical Education; John Hershel Fitz ’50, BS in Vocational Agriculture; and Ella Janell Fitz Maurer ‘49, BS in History, all received degrees from Sam Houston State University. Dilmas’ older sister, Bess Fitz Fritter, was the first member of the Fitz family to receive her baccalaureate degree in Education from Southwestern State Teachers College.
