Dr. Stanley F. Kelley Endowed Animal Science Scholarship

Stanley was born September 20, 1963 in Seguin, Texas. His family moved to Cuero, Texas in 1971 where he graduated from high school in 1982 as an honor graduate and class president. Stanley graduated from Texas A&M in 1986 with his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and began his career as a County Extension Agent in Gonzales County. He began experiencing his interest in education young people and chose to pursue his goal and returned to A&M to complete his Master of Science and Ph.D. in 1991 and 1994, respectively. Stanley was employed by Sam Houston State University in 1993 to coordinate the Animal Science Program. He has revived the program as one of the fastest growing degrees on campus and in 1995 started the Beef Cattle Show Team and the Livestock Judging Team. In 2003, he became the Program Coordinator and Graduate Coordinator for agricultural sciences and in 2007 he was appointed chair of the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering Technology. Since his appointment to chair and graduate coordinator he has successfully increased enrollment annually for the department, which includes the number of funded teaching and research assistantships. Stanley is the driving force behind the department’s progression, continual growth, the design and development of the Pirkle Engineering Technology Center, and several other new facilities for the department. Stanley is always at ‘home’ in the classroom and has been the recipient of many national teaching awards and was the youngest recipient of the SHSU Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997. He has since received 6 national teaching awards, including USDA’s Food and Agriculture Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award. After 22 years of service, alumni, family and friends wanted to recognize Dr. Stanley F. Kelley’s contribution to the Animal Science program and the Agricultural Sciences and Engineering Technology department. Donors recognize his passion for teaching and acknowledge the personal time dedicated tot he Animal Science program and department.
