Fields Tugwell Endowed Scholarship
Melissa Fields Tugwell is a 2014 graduate of Sam Houston State University. She attended the College of Business Administration as a nontraditional student after co-founding PetRays Veterinary Telemedicine Consultants. According to Melissa, becoming an entrepreneur and completing her college education were lifelong goals largely inspired and made possible by her beloved grandparents, Raymond and Lou Ella Morgan. Raymond and Lou Ella Morgan’s entrepreneurial Journey began with the start of World War II Raymond served as a member of the United States Naval Construction Battalion where he gained experience in personnel management and logistics. Lou Ella worked as a Navy shipyard welder by day and took bookkeeping classes at night. Together they left the War with skills that made them a remarkable team. The Morgan’s first business venture was an agriculture feed and supply store in Madisonville, TX: However, their sites were set on opportunities in Colorado. They went on to open a thriving grocery store and several other small businesses in Pueblo, Colorado. During their 25 years in the grocery industry, they studied and mastered every aspect of their trade from supply chain management to butchery. Raymond and Lou Ella lead their staff by example and became cherished members of their community. When asked their secret to success, they attributed it to courage, integrity, hard work, and continuous learning. In 1980, Raymond and Lou Ella retired and returned to Texas, where they devoted the rest of their lives to their family
