Ruth and J.A. Chandler Endowed Scholarship

Nora Harrelson attended then Sam Houston Normal Institution and graduated in 1917. She married Hodge Chandler and had 2 sons. Their sons, K.D. & James Chandler graduated from then Sam Houston State Teachers College with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. To honor J.A. and Ruth Chandler and to recognize their dedication and commitment to education and to Sam Houston State University, the Chandler family established this scholarship to provide scholarships in Agriculture, Elementary Education, and Family and Consumer Science.
