Edward Glenn Owens Scholarship

Edward Glenn Owens earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Corrections from Sam Houston State University in 1980. He began his career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice- Institutional Division as a correctional officer in 1977 while a student at SHSU. He advanced to Deputy Executive Director for TDCJ. He was appointed by Governor Perry, of Texas, in February 2007 to serve as Acting Executive Director of the Texas Youth Commission, and later as Conservator of the Texas Youth Commission. In August 2007, Ed retired from TDCJ. Ed and Rissie established this scholarship to provide financial assistance to students interested in this occupation that Ed loved.
